  1. Tour the College of Charleston – take a 75 minute walking tour of the campus while you learn about campus life as well as the history behind some of the oldest buildings.  Call 843-953-5670 to schedule a weekday tour starting at 9:30am.
  2. Star gazing at the College of Charleston Observatory – host on first Fridays open to the public from 8 – 9:30pm  call 843-953-2031
  3. The Battery – one of Charleston’s most stunning park.  There are several other parks to visit such as White Point Gardens with Great views near Fort Sumter.  Waterfront Park facing the Cooper River with swinging benches and several fountains for splashing water that kids love!
  4. The Farmer’s Market – at Marion Square is held on Saturdays thru Dec 19 near King and Calhoun street.  You’ll find street performers, arts and crafts and fine produce.
  5. Rosebank Farms – 4455 Betsy Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island.  It’s a working farm with live animals kids will love to see and a small museum filled with history.  The farm also grows vegetables and flowers.
  6. Charleston Tea Plantation – Lipton Tea established this location as a test farm which is now owned by Bigelow.  Check out this 127 acre plantation harvesting more than 150,000 tea bushes.  Get a free tour from 10am – 4pm Wed – Saturday, 12 – 4 on Sundays.  Call 843-559-0383.
  7. Taste the Vineyards – at Irvin-House Vinyards 6775 Bears Bluff Road west of downtown Wadmalaw Island.  You can tour the grounds for free on Saturdays with wine tastings every hour for $3.  Tour hours  are from 10am – 5pm  Wednesday – Saturday
  8. Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival -  at Waterfront Park on June 5, 2010 there is free admission from 10am – 5pm to celebrate crafts of the lowcountry which includes Charleston’s most famous handwoven baskets for sale also including quilts and paintings.  Eat and browse the local crafts!
  9. Art tour – of the French Quarters – come and see the neighborhood that was first populated by French protestant settlers in Colonial Days that is now filled with art galleries near South Market and Tradd Street, Meeting Street and the waterfront.  With a paper guide you can explore 30 galleries on your own or take a guided tour between 5pm – 8pm the first Fridays of March, May, October and December.  Get more information at www.frenchquarters.com
  10. Firework Show – held at Brittlebank Park on Friday evenings when Charleston’s minor league RiverDogs are playing a home game next to the park at their stadium.  You can check out the RiverDogs minor league baseball schedule to find the next Friday for the Fireworks show at http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/schedule/index.jsp?sid=t233&m=07&y=2010
